My catchment Group journey began in 2014 as one of the instigators and leader of Pomahaka Water Care Group. A group of farmers working together to restore the health of the Pomahaka river. This non regulatory, farmer to farmer approach was very successful in promoting good management practices and resulted in significant improvements in water quality. The success of the Pomahaka was shared extensively around the country to the developing catchment group network. I also led the development of the Otago South River Care catchment group network and founding member of Otago Catchment Community. I have a farming and farm business management background and along with catchment group work I am the deputy chair of Otago Regional Council.
The establishment of a national body is the last step to provide consistency of messaging to enable the sustainability of the catchment group network. This will enable the full potential of catchment groups across the country in achieving their environmental goals.
I have a practical approach and the governance skills to complement the aims of ANZCC.
