Ben is a sheep and beef farmer from Cheviot. Together with his wife and daughter he runs 12,000 SU. Ben was founding Chair of the Hurunui District Landcare Group and after 9 years leading the organization has recently stepped back. He remains a committee member. The HDLG currently has 300+ predominantly dryland hill country farmer members and covers an area of 320,000 Ha in the Hurunui District.

The nature of the work undertaken by HDLG is diverse, including Farm planning, water quality, biodiversity, climate change/carbon/ETS.
